This course examines the etiology, systemic contributing factors, and pathogenesis of periodontal diseases. Particular attention is given to differential diagnosis, treatment planning, and the roles of the dental hygienist in treating periodontal diseases. Students continue with their understanding of non-surgical periodontal therapies and the use of specific chemotherapeutic and anti- microbial agents. Students also study osseous defects, dental implants, and periodontal maintenance therapies.
